Note: Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022) has been described as a "direct sequel to the original" by Netflix. However, writer/producer Fede Alvarez has explained that "direct sequel" refers to the film picking up fifty years after the original film, not that it's erasing the original sequels:

"When I say 'direct sequel' I wouldn't say it skips everything. When movies do that, sometimes it feels a bit disrespectful to all the other films. Some people love Texas Chainsaw 2.
